| The mid to north west
coast of Dominica is the warmest
and driest stretch, falling in what is termed a 'rainshadow' area. The
waters of the Caribbean Sea are generally calm and clear, protected by
the island's mountainous terrain from the prevailing easterly winds.
The
coastal road linking Roseau to Portsmouth is Dominica's busiest, on
which
cheap local minibus taxis pass frequently. Although only the waters
around
and to the north of the Cabrits peninsular are a designated marine
reserve,
a third reserve will soon be declared fuerther south. Diving and
snorkelling is good along this entire stretch of coastline
and
is well catered for by dive shops at several locations. The twin hills
of the Cabrits peninsular are a National Park, with a Welcome Centre,
several
nature trails and the historic Fort Shirley, which is currently being
refurbished. To the south of Portsmouth
flows the tranquil Indian River, accessed by rowing boat only. Just
north
of Dublanc village is a road up to the Morne Diablotin National Park
which
has a trail to the summit of our highest mountain, 4,747ft. and another
gentle trail through Syndicate Forest, popular for parrot spotting. The
Coulibistrie and Macoucherie
valleys are also picturesque. |

hotel and restaurant, recently completed, on the hill slopes
overlooking Picard Village, Ross Medical School and the Caribbean Sea.
It's elevated location maximises the panoramic ocean view at all
levels.
A newly constructed concrete access road arrives at visitor parking at the top level, encompasing the reception, bar,
restaurant and breakfast area. 5 spacious guestrooms are on two levels
below, each with generous, shared, covered sea facing balconies. The
guestrooms are air conditioned, have
ceiling fans along with cable TV and WiFi internet for your laptop pc.
Built, owned and run by a Dutch couple, this establishment was voted
'Hotel of the Year' by the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association in
2009.
This
is an ideal location for visiting friends and family of students
attending Ross Medical School and also for casual visitors wishing to
spend time in this scenic and historic part of the island. The
restaurant is already popular with Ross students and faculty.
Places of interest in the vicinity include the tranquil Indian River,
the
historic Fort Shirley and nature trails on the Cabrits Peninsular,
Picard Beach and Dive Centre, Syndicate Forest in the Morne Diablotin
National Park, home to our two native parrots.

Brief Description:

elevated location, from where a panoramic view over Salisbury village

the Caribbean Sea may be enjoyed from a west facing balcony (with

is well serviced with grocery stores and snackets. A five minute drive
from Salisbury beach, where fish may be bought from local
fishermen
and scuba diving can be arranged with the East Carib Dive Club - you

relax at their beach bar and daytime restaurant, Chez La Doudou. Other
nearby restaurants at Tamarind Tree, Stonedge & Sunset Bay. Vehicle
hire is recommended - a 5 minute drive from the main coast road
(Portsmouth
35 min., Roseau 35 min., Melville Hall Airport 1 hour, Canefield
Airport
25 min.). A good central location, convenient for exploring the entire
island - nearby attractions include the Macoucherie River and Rum
distillery,
Mero Beach, Layou River, Mathia Dam, Morne Diablotin National Park,
Syndicate
Trail, Indian River & Cabrits National Park. Good for snorkelling

the surrounding area.

Brief Description:
A recently completed self contained downstairs apartment occupies
approx. half the floor area of the main villa above and is more
compact. A bar counter separates the kitchen from the Lounge/Dining
Area, which has cable TV and a small balcony. One bedroom with double
bed. 2nd bedroom has single bunk beds. One bathroom (not en suite) has
combined bath/ shower. External stairs lead down to the garden. On the
remainder of the covered area at apartment level is
a small tiled counter with sink and some garden furniture, where
you can relax outdoors and enjoy the west coast sunsets. Keeps
open the Salisbury option during periods when the villa is
already booked. Renting both the villa and apartment affords the
opportunity to accommodate a party of up to a maximum of 10 persons.
Vehicle hire is
recommended at this location.

Royal Palm (south
side) is the largest one bedroom apartment with high quality
furnishings. King Size four poster bed. Cable TV and leather sofa in
dining room. A second double bed may be swung down into the lounge from
behind a wall panel - this is intended for family use as the only
bathroom is en-suite. Large uncovered veranda with table and chairs.
