West Coast (mid - north)


The mid to north west coast of Dominica is the warmest and driest stretch, falling in what is termed a 'rainshadow' area. The waters of the Caribbean Sea are generally calm and clear, protected by the island's mountainous terrain from the prevailing easterly winds. The coastal road linking Roseau to Portsmouth is Dominica's busiest, on which cheap local minibus taxis pass frequently. Although only the waters around and to the north of the Cabrits peninsular are a designated marine reserve, diving and snorkelling is good along this entire stretch of coastline and is well catered for by dive shops at several locations. The twin hills of the Cabrits peninsular are a National Park, with a Welcome Centre, several nature trails and the ruins of Fort Shirley. To the south of Portsmouth flows the tranquil Indian River, accessed by rowing boat only. Just north of Dublanc village is a road up to the Morne Diablotin National Park which has a trail to the summit of our highest mountain, 4,747ft. and another through Syndicate Forest, popular for parrot spotting. The Macoucherie valley is also very picturesque.

Brief Description: 6 studio apartments, paired together in 3 separate cottages in an attractive garden at a quiet, beachfront location just south of the Picard River. Generous living/dining area, separated by a bar counter from the bedroom, which has 2 queen size beds. Hot water shower. Self catering. Insect screens. Each pair of units share a covered veandah at the entrance. The units are not air conditioned. A recent upgrade included installation of ceiling fans and cable TV in each apartment. There is also one small basic unit suitable for a single person on a budget. Beachfront bar & seafood restaurant. Cabritts Dive Centre nearby. A little further down the beach are alternative restaurants at Coconut Beach & the Portsmouth Beach Hotel. Freshwater bathing possible in the nearby Picard River.
During the making of the box office record breaking Walt Disney film, Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest, in 2005, released on 7th July 2006, this facility was frequently patronised by members of the film crew and cast.

Brief Description:   Perched on a cliff above the Caribbean Sea in a quiet and secluded location, this newly openned facility has lots of charm and individual character. The main building offers a first floor gallery off which are four double bedrooms with wall fan and en-suite bathroom, one of which is occupied by the owners whilst the other three are available as double guest rooms. A further 8 double guest rooms are side by side facing the ocean in timber chalet style, brightly painted in blue and yellow. Your host, Didier (Belgian), will make you feel at home. No A/C, though high ceilings make apartments feel cool & airy. Tiled floors, tasteful decor. Sunset over the Caribbean Sea can be enjoyed from all balconies.
