A recent survey rated Dominica among the top 3 dive sites in the whole of the Caribbean and number 5 in the world. One of the few remaining places where most of the coral is still in pristine condition. The calm, clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, sheltered from the prevailing easterly winds by a high mountain range, offer a multitude of spectacular dive sites, with wrecks, drop-offs and underwater hot springs emitting constant streams of tiny bubbles, referred to locally as 'champagne'. Even for the casual snorkeller, the opportunities are numerous and varied. Though the whole of the west coast offers wonderful dive scenarios, the waters off the north west and south west sections of coastline have been designated marine reserves - Scotts Head/ Soufriere Bay in the south is, in fact, a sbmerged volcano. This is our most diverse and popular dive site. 
Seasoned divers often comment on the quality and diversity of the coral to be found in our waters, compared to many of the more frequented dive destinations such as the Cayman Islands.
