Steve & Sandra migrated from Canada in 1996 to make Dominica their
new home. They purchased 5 acres of a banana plantation bordering a
river on which they built their home. More recently they completed the
first of 2 cottages, to accommodate visitors to Dominica. The cottage
is well designed and constructed, tastefully finished and furnished.

special is the tranquil location, crystal clear river in which to bathe

an array of colourful flowers, organically grown fruit and a lawned
area with picnic tables. This is the closest venue to Melville Hall
Airport, approx. 1 mile, so a perfect place to start and finish your
Dominica vacation, especially if your flight arrives late in the
afternoon or leaves early in the morning.

attending Ross Medical School. Dublanc is a small, friendly village.
The shoreline rarely has sand but the sea is typically calm and clear
and good for snorkelling. Some noise from passing vehicles can be heard
though there is little traffic at night. Approx. 40 minutes by road
from Melville Hall Airport, 10 minutes from Portsmouth, 50 minutes from
Roseau. Frequent local minibus service passes between Portmouth
and Roseau. Vehicle Rental recommended for exploring the island.

A recently completed self contained downstairs apartment occupies
approx. half the floor area of the main villa above and is more
compact. A bar counter separates the kitchen from the Lounge/Dining
Area, which has cable TV and a small balcony. One bedroom with double
bed. 2nd bedroom has single bunk beds. One bathroom (not en suite) has
combined bath/ shower. External stairs lead down to the garden. On the
remainder of the covered area at apartment level is
a small tiled counter with sink and some garden furniture, where
you can relax outdoors and enjoy the west coast sunsets. Keeps
open the Salisbury option during periods when the villa is
already booked. Renting both the villa and apartment affords the
opportunity to accommodate a party of up to a maximum of 10 persons.

Location: near the mouth of the Layou River, Hillsborough, mid west coast
Brief
Description:
Petini Layou is a newly completed (2011) guest cottage situated in a
forest clearing on a large private estate near the estuary of
Dominica's longest river. The Layou River valley is an area of
outstanding natural beauty along which, at weekends and public
holidays, both locals and visitors like to picnic and swim. The
building comprises a small apartment at the front which will have a
long term tenant. The remainder is a spacious open plan self contained
cottage used by the owner when visiting Dominica, otherwise available
from 1st September 2011 via
Nature Island Destinations for short term visitor accommodation.
Attractive finishes include tiled floors throughout and wooden clad
columns and beams. The owner's musical and artistic flair is apparent
in the choice of fixtures and fittings. Indonesian style arched
openings surround the western exterior, fitted with outward opening
wooden doors, the central pair of which open onto an outdoor patio with
loungers. Though the sleeping area is part of the open plan design, a
folding screen may be placed around it if desired. There is also a
futon - a settee which may be opened out into a second double bed if
required. Sleeping area has opening windows with insect screens and
security bars. The bathroom has a hot water shower and there is a
washing
machine in the kitchen. There is no TV, but there is a selection
of dvd's to watch on your laptop pc along with WiFi internet. Telephone
is available for
receiving calls only (cellphones may
also be
hired
with most vehicle rentals). In the event of utility problems there is a
stand-by generator and rainwater storage tank. The access road is
unsurfaced and requires
a 4 wheel drive vehicle (which we can arrange for you to collect at the
airport or ferry dock on arrival in Dominica). A quiet and secluded
setting where the only sounds you will hear are those of the birds,
frogs and crickets. No children under age 18. This venue is intended
for romantic
couples, writers, artists, musicians or business people seeking a break
from the hustle and bustle of our hectic lifestyles. Maid service twice
a week. Though there is a quarry in the vicinity, due to the flat elevated location of the cottage and forested surrounds, no noise from the quarry reaches the cottage. A good central location, convenient for exploring the entire
island - Melville Hall Airport 50 minutes, Roseau 20 minutes. Nearby
attractions include wacky Rollers treetops adventure park and river
tubing on the Layou River. The popular beach at Mero Village is just a
5 minute drive north and 5 minutes beyond that is Salisbury Beach where scuba diving
can
be arranged with the East Carib Dive Club.
The east coast can be reached via the Layou Valley road and Portsmouth
is a 40 minutes drive north, passing on the way the turn off to
Syndicate Forest on the western slopes of our highest mountain, Morne
Diablotin (4,774 ft.) and Picard Beach. Approaching Portsmouth is the
Indian River National Park and beyond Portsmouth
is the Cabrits peninsular - a National Park with nature trails and the
historic Fort Shirley - and surrounded by a Marine National Park.

Nearby natural attractions include
the hiking trail up Morne
Trois Pitons (4,550ft.), Emerald Pool, Twin Falls and Layou River hot
springs.
The south east coast is reached in 20 min.- Rosalie turtle beach, Sari
Sari Falls behind Laplaine, Victoria Falls on the White River.

Rosalie and La Plaine, east coast.

away and is lawned, with mature fruit trees. Elevated location (approx.
800ft.) offers panoramic views towards the Atlantic Ocean. There
are
some enjoyable hiking trails in this locality, along the Sari Sari and
Rosalie Rivers and to the Freshwater Lake in the Morne Trois Pitons
National
Park. North of Riviere Cyrique is a long shallow beach, good for
surfing
and below Riviere Cyrique is a 'secret beach' which you have to climb
down
to and where a splendid waterfall cascades into the Atlantic Ocean. The
beaches on the Atlantic coastline in this locality are prime turtle
nesting
areas.
