ROSEAU
VALLEY & LAUDAT

| Whilst conveniently situated just
a short drive from
the Post Office, shops, banks and restaurants of Dominica's tiny
capital,
Roseau, this region is also the gateway to our World
Heritage Site - the Morne Trois
Pitons
National Park. Beyond Papillote the road ends at a visitor
centre
and car park, from where a 15 minute forest trail leads to an
observation shelter from where both of the twin
Trafalgar
Falls may be viewed. In the northern heights of the Roseau Valley is
the village of
Laudat,
at an elevation of 2,000ft., from where a new road leads to the
Freshwater
Lake visitor centre, where kyaks may be hired. A 30 minute trail
encircles the lake and another trail continues
to Boeri Lake. It is from Laudat that the all
day hike to the
Boiling Lake
commences via Titou Gorge, Breakfast River and the Valley of
Desolation. From the
approach road to Laudat is the 1 hour trail to our highest waterfall,
Middleham
Falls (300ft). This trail then contiues on past Stinking Hole to the
village
of Cochrane which is also accessed by road from Canefield. In the
southern
heights of the Roseau Valley is the village of Wotton Waven, which
offers several hot mineral water
spa's to soak away those aches and pains. |

which gives a true flavour of Dominica. All rooms have private bathroom

not equipped with television or phones. Cool mountain breezes make
air-conditioning
unnecessary and a 24 hour phone is available at the reception area.
Only a limited number of guestrooms.
The twin Trafalgar Falls is just a 15 minute
walk through the
forest from Papillote.

Waterfall Cottage no longer available.
ROOM #3 (Begonia Room) is located on the
ground floor of
the rainforest rooms building. A spacious room with 4 Poster Queen
sized
bed, private bath and covered shared verandah. A myriad of begonias in
garden adjacent.
ROOM #8 (Overlook Room) is located on
the upper level
of the rainforest rooms building overlooking the botanical gardens. One
queen bed with private bath.
SUITE #6 (Roseau Valley View) is
located on the
upper level of the rainforest rooms building, with sweeping views of
the
Roseau Valley and a large private verandah. This spacious suite
contains
a 4 poster queen-sized bed in one room and a single bed located in a
separate
room. Private bath and a small fridge.
SUITE #10 (Hummingbird Suite) is
located in the rainforest
rooms building. It has queen sized 4 poster bed in one room, two single
beds in a second room, a private bath and veranda where you can sit and
watch the birds. Suitable for a family

located on the upper
level of the garden building, surrounded by Botanical Gardens and at

RAINFOREST
SHANGRI-LA
Location:
near to the small mountain village of Wotton Waven, in the southern
heights
of the Roseau Valley.
Brief
Description:
this new resort, completed in 2007, is set in over 17 acres of partly
forested
land at a cool altitude of around 1,500 feet, bordering the sparkling
River
Blanc. This is a thermal area and the site has several natural features
- bubbling mud geysers, hot springs, crystal sulphur cavern and a 100ft
waterfall. The emphasis here is on relaxation and rejuvination, both
physical
and mental, with a variety of therapies/ activities available, mud
treatments,
facials and 7 stone hot pools of varying size to simply relax in the
water
from natural mineral springs. Care has been taken to use natural
materials
where possible and to engage environmentally friendly practices. 3
individual
cabins and 2 duplex units can accommodate up to 7 couples, each unit
having
either king size bed or twin beds, ceiling fan, bathroom with shower
and
balcony with hammocks, no TV. Other facilities include a 38 person
restaurant,
a large open air pavilion used for aerobics, Qi-gong, Tai-chi, Yoga,
workshops,
conferences, entertainment, etc., cabana by the river for massage &
relaxation.
